We have now implemented microchipping for all puppies adopted by SMM.
Some of you may already know what microchipping is for your pet, but for others they may not. So, we are going to briefly go over, What is a microchip?
A pet microchip - the size of a grain of rice - that is encoded with a unique ID number that will be assigned to your pet. No two microchips have the same ID number. The microchip is placed between your puppy's shoulder blades and implantation is quick, easy, does not require surgery or wear out and virtually painless, similar to a vaccine injection.
A microchip is not a tracking device, it can only be "turned on" for a few seconds when a handheld microchip scanner passes over the area where the microchip is implanted to read the microchip's unique ID number. Veterinarians, shelters, and rescues have these scanners and use them to help with lost pets all of the time. It is imperative to have your pet's microchip registered otherwise the chances of finding your lost puppy is less likely to occur.
Registering your puppy's microchip provides your pet with permanent identification to give them the best chance of coming home and reunite you with your pet if they become lost. Your puppy's ID is linked to your name, phone number, emergency contact and other vital information so that when your lost puppy is found the registry can immediately contact you as quickly as possible.
Do microchips really work? A microchip is not a GPS device and based on microchip studies we found that:
42% of microchipped pets were not registered in a pet recovery service.
35% of registered pets were not recovered because of incorrect or missing contact information.
17.2% of registered pets were not recovered because their owners registered them in a database different from the microchip manufacturer.
With those statistics, a microchip that is not registered, containing missing or incorrect information and registered with a different company can be the very reason a microchip may seem not to work.
Because of those statistics; Here at SMM, we have taken an extra step in providing Microchips that are already *Pre-registered* for the lifetime of your puppy and there is never a fee to update or change your registration. This ensures that 100% of all OUR puppies are registered. We use BuddyID Microchips & Service.
When your puppy is picked-up we set-time aside to go over microchip information and to register your puppy so that everything is complete. *Due to COVID19 we are not registering any Microchips* Therefore each client will need to register their puppy/dog online or by phone - this is a simple process and we provide information to you.
*Pre-registered* - means our microchips are registered to us thru Buddy, but - you will still need to call or visit their website to register your puppy in your name by phone or online..
We now offer ISO Microchip Identification services for your other pets too! This service includes implantation, mini-microchip, and lifetime registration, a all-in-one package. Package is $25.00 per pet. (limited to dogs & cats Only)
*Important Date* to remember: 15th August of every year is "Check the Chipday" a day where all pet owners should check their pet's microchips and make sure their personal information is up to date.
